Def Leppard Viva! Hysteria album cover

Viva! Hysteria is an historic moment. This record captures Def Leppard live on stage performing their masterpiece Hysteria.

It all started back in 1987, as Hysteria instantly went number 1 in the charts of several countries just after being released.
It has sold over 20 million records worldwide and out of the 12 songs, 7 became hit singles, making it one of the most popular Hard Rock and Heavy Metal records of all time.

In March 2013 Def Leppard decided to perform the whole album during an 11-show residency at The Joint, in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino of Las Vegas… These shows have been captured live and the result is this great record, Viva! Hysteria.

Def Leppard’s performance is amazing, totally flawless. Joe Elliot sings great, Phill and Vivian guitars are totally clear, the rhythm section with Rick Allen and Rick Savage and is perfect, and the backing vocals are wonderful.

The sound is amazing too, and one can feel the energy of the band as well as the excitement of the crowds.

Even if many songs on Hysteria are part of almost every Def Leppard show, and some already figure on the live album Mirrorball, hearing the band performing this legendary record in its entirety is something amazing. The riff of Run Riot sounds incredible, I don't understand why this song isn't more popular.
Love and Affection also sounds great, it's very cool to discover these songs under a live performance perspective.
And well, it's always a pleasure to hear all-time classics such as Animal, Armageddon It or Pour Some Sugar On Me. I wish I had witnessed that!

But what could have been an tribute to one of the best Hard Rock records of all time is actually much more than that.
After performing Hysteria the band plays some other well known hits. This is great but those can be considered as great bonus tracks.

The real highlight is the second CD, which contains two full sets of Ded Flatbird, the opening band for those Las Vegas shows.

And who the hell is Ded Flatbird? Is that a Def Leppard cover-band?
Well, actually it’s the best possible tribute band that could ever exist: they're no other than Def Leppard themselves, performing rare songs on stage!
Woah, that’s an opening act you don’t want to miss!

Two sets of 35 minutes are captured here, and some real treasures such as Rock Brigade and On Through The Night... but also the first five songs of the iconic High'n'Dry, including Another Hit And Run and Switch 625!

These are not just mere bonus tracks, the CD2 of Viva! Hysteria is a real jewel, as important a CD1.
It’s a gift from the band to their loyal fans.

Viva! Hysteria is a celebration of Def Leppard’s career during an exceptional show.
This live album contains Def Leppard’s most legendary record plus many other songs, some underrated and some even forgotten.
But in any case, each and every song on this record have helped to define Def Leppard’s characteristic sound, and that’s why every fan of the band should own a copy.
