Russ Anderson singing with Forbidden at the Alcatraz Metal Festival Belgium

After Helstar, I checked a few songs from Izegrim at the Tent Stage and then it was time for Forbidden.

There were 3 bands from the San Francisco Bay Area thrash scene today: Forbidden, Death Angel and Vicious Rumors.
Forbidden was the first of them.

I was really excited about this gig, I never thought I'll see this band on stage!

Craig Lociero live at the Alcatraz Metal Festival with Forbidden

Again, the sound wasn't very good, but what mattered is that Forbidden was on stage, giving us exactly what we expected: a good dose of thrash metal!

Guitar solos and rythm parts from Craig Lociero and Steve Smyth were as good as one can expect, while the bass lines of Matt Camacho did shake the walls of the Brielpoort.

Russ Anderson at the Alcatraz Metal Festival, live with Forbidden

Singer Russ Anderson is impressive on stage.
I'm not only talking about his vocals, ranging from thrash scream to a clear tenor voice.

He's also huge and imposing. Wearing a baseball shirt from the San Francisco Giants, he's not the kind of guy you want to find on a lonely street in the middle of the night.

Steve Smyth on guitars with Forbidden

Forbidden cancelled most o their European Tour, but still they were here at the Alcatraz Metal Fest.
Russ Anderson stated they they couldn't tour Europe as much as they wanted, so I can assure you that the band gave it all today!
When introducing the song Omega Wave, he urged us to see the video they've made for this song.
You can check it out on their myspace and facebook pages.

Russ Anderson live with Forbidden

The audience responded with lots of crowdsurfing. Usually, the audience is quite calm in Belgium, but it seems like a band like Forbidden can easily make the people go crazy.

There were old and new songs in the setlist. I enjoyed a lot Forsaken at the Gates, Chalice Of Blood and Twisted Into Form.

Gene Hoglan on drums live with Forbidden

Drummer Mark Hernandez was not in the band anymore. The mighty Gene Hoglan returned to Forbidden, so this was like a reunion show: the first Forbidden concert in 2011 with Gene Hoglan.
I don't need to tell you that more than a drummer, this guy is a fast rythmn machine!
Absolutely incredible!

Forbidden live at Alcatraz Metal Festival

A better sound would have made this concert even better.
Well, after this mind blowing show, the legendary Udo Dirkschneider was coming next.
