After Dream Theater, there was one hour and 15 minutes before the Iron Maiden show.
That was quite long, and everybody went to buy something to eat and drink, so all the stall were really crowded.

Iron Maiden live in Madrid

Iron Maiden were the headliners of the Sonisphere Madrid 2011.
Nevertheless, they were not the last band to play: Twisted Sister, Huriah Heep and Lacuna Coil were playing after them.

It might seem strange to see other bands playing after the headliners, but most of the festival happened late at night, and Maiden won't play after midnight.

Iron Maiden live at the Sonisphere Festival Madrid

It was incredible to see that most people came to the festival for Iron Maiden. The place was totally crowded, everyone went to Sonisphere to watch this show.
Moreover, this was the last Maiden show in mainland Europe for this year. A UK tour was coming next, but there werre no more scheduled shows outside Great Britain.

The Trooper in Madrid

I couldn't get very close and I didn't have a photopass, so sorry about the pictures. To see better quality pictures to can see this review from Paris.

As you can iimagine, there was a general eurphoria when Iron Maiden came on stage. They used the whole light show, even if they started during daylight.

The sound was incredible! Even if I was far on the right side I could hear everything clear.

Sonispgere Festival - Iron Maiden live in Madrid

Bruce was in a particularly good shape tonight. He was totally unchained, running all over the stage.

As they played El Dorado, he wanted to make us sing louder, so he screamed "Come on Madrid, con Cojones!!" (with balls!) while he touched his balls.

When Bruce saw a flag from the Basque Country, he pointed out the diversity of the people tonight. He stated that the world was in Madrid tonight, as he poinnted to the flags of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, France, England, Norway and many others.

This was the moment to remind that Iron Maiden fans are a big family, and that's always the best speech to introduce the son Blood Brothers.

Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden live in Madrid

This was my 36th Iron Maiden concert, and the last from The Final Frontier Tour.
I was a bit nostalgic while they played songs like The Talisman and Coming Home.
I love The Final Frontier album and I really love this two songs.
I'll probably will never hear them live again, so I enjoyed them as if it was the last time. It probably will.

I Want You... Janick The Wizard Gers

Also, one of the best moments of the shhow was When The Wild Wind Blows. The crowd started to clap hands spontaniously, as if it was the most awaited of the new songs.
But altough it's not my favourite track of the album, Maiden played an amazing version of this song today, and I found myself almost in trance, headbanging and singing the words.

Iron Maiden: 3 guitars in Madrid

The festival site in Getafe is not far from a place called El Cerro De Los Angeles, which is a Monastery monastery built in the upper part of a hill, facing a huge Christ statue.

It was quite ironic to hear The Number Of The Beast with the view of this monastery from the festival site!

Steve Harrris and Janick Gers - Iron Maiden live in Madrid

The setlist was exactly the same that for other shows of The Final Frontier Tour.

Bruce introduced the band's line-up during Running Free, but he did it quite quick. In Paris and Bogotá for example he did quite long speeches and took some time to talk about the band.
Tonight, it seemed that they were in a hurry. MMaybe it's because it was a festival, but a headliner shouldn't worry about this.

Adrian Smith at the Sonisphere Festival in Madrid

Well, it was another great Maiden show, without any possible comparaison with the previous bands.

Nevertheless, Twisted Sister was next on stage... and Twisted Sister is undoubtly one of the best live bands on earth...
