Dee Snider from Twisted Sister live at the Hellfest

Twisted Sister was back in France after 24 years of absence!
Can you believe it? Since the reunion took place in 2003, they have toured almost every year in Europe, but until now, no show had been scheduled here.

As the Twisted Sister guys don’t wear makeup anymore on stage, this means that there was no Twisted Sister classic show in France.

So, Twisted Sister’s comeback to France is the first reason why this show was historical.

The second reason is the weather!
I’ve seen Twisted Sister 5 times before plus a Dee Snider solo show and it always rained!

At Sweden Rock 2003 the weather was great but it began to rain just before Twisted Sister show (which was the last concert of the festival).

Mark the Animal Mendoza and AJ Pero from Twisted Sister In 2004 at the Gods Of Metal Festival, a heavy rain damaged the stage equipment and two bands had to cancel their performance.
It even rained before their show in Southern Spain (Serie Z Festival in Jerez 2003) where rain is uncommon!

This time the sun was shining and the weather was great

Twisted Sister’s Intro was a mix of 3 well known standards: AC/DC’s It’s a Long Way To The Top (as usual), and Rainbow’s Man On The Silver Mountain.
A great way to do a tribute to Ronnie James Dio from the beginning!
The last song on the medley was Twisted Sister’s own Come On And Play, a sentence that the audience kept screaming louder and louder... until the band came out and play!

What a pleasure to see Twisted Sister again on stage!!
And what a surprise to see them wearing black clothes instead of their Glam Rock stuff!

Jay Jay French was in great shape that afternoon. He spent the whole show moving from one side of the stage to the other, and spent some time right in the middle looking at the audience.
His guitar had a great sound.

Mark The Animal Mendoza is still the heavy weight champion of the rock’n’roll bass players!
None hits his instrument like he does, and that’s part of the unique Twisted Sister sound!

Eddie Fingers Ojeda stayed most of the time on his side but moved to the front in a few occasions.
He might not be a guitar hero, but his solos sound great and he’s got a nice bluesy style.

A.J. Pero is still amazing on drums. The guy hits like thunder and grooves like a tornado!

Dee Snider was as usual in very good shape. Running and headbanging all the time doesn’t affect his voice.

I’ve always said that he’s one of the best frontmans in Rock and Metal. Probably even the best, and he proved it once again tonight.

The setlist was quite classic for a one-hour show, but the managed to play a couple of surprises: Captain Howdy and Rainbow’s cover Long Live Rock'n'Roll.

To introduce this Long Live Rock'n'Roll, Dee went in front of the Mainstage 2 (located just left to the mainstage 1, where TS was playing) to talk to the people that were waiting for Immortal.
He stated something like
“Hey you, stop talking. First, the Immortal singer is here behind, watching our show.
And second, this a tribute to Ronnie James Dio, and without Dio there would be no Immortal!”
.

Dee Snider from Twisted Sister live at the Hellfest Ah, Dee’s speeches always so poignant. But he's right, and no other frontman can rival him regarding this matter!

Dee also stated at the end of the show that this was Twisted Sister’s original line-up.
That’s something rare regarding bands with a long career. Accept no imitations; there is only one Twisted Sister!

As you can imagine We’re not gonna take it was one of the highlights of the show, but it wasn’t like in Germany or Italy where people kept singing the chorus during and after the show.

Here, people sang, danced, asked for more, but didn’t continue singing after the show.

Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda and Mark Mendoza - Twisted Sister live at the Hellfest Other memorable moments were I wanna Rock, The Price (Also dedicated to Ronnie James Dio, with Dee Snider leading left and right the hands of every metalhead in the pit), and Burn in Hell (although there was no pyro).

Twisted Sister decided to play a bit longer than expected, and thus could give an energetic version of S.M.F.
Jay Jay French and his pink Gibson guitar - Twisted Sister live at the Hellfest Dee Snider and Jay Jay French announced a surprise that no one was expecting: they will play a second show in France in 2010!
The motorcycle Free Wheels festival will organize a Twisted Sister headlining show in August.
I appreciate a lot this Festival because it was there that I saw Iron Maiden and Helloween for first time, when I was a 16 year old Metal Traveller.
Dee Snider from Twisted Sister live at the Hellfest Unfortunately I won’t be able to go in 2010 because I will be celebrating Bruce Dickinson’s birthday at Stockholm’s Sonisphere Festival, but I guess the show is going to be great!

A Twisted Sister show is always a great moment, and you really better not miss them if they play anywhere near you!
